The new EX30 is the brand’s smallest SUV to date and deliveries in the UK are expected to start early next year, with pricing just below the £34,000 mark.
Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), which underpinned the latest Smart #1 model, is being used here. At 4233mm, the EX30 is more compact than most of its premium rivals.
The car also has the lowest carbon footprint and the fastest acceleration of any Volvo yet. The highest-spec Twin Motor Performance trim can go from 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds.
The EX30 will be offered in three different configurations. The entry-level Single Motor option is rear-wheel drive with 268bhp and 343Nm of torque. This comes with a 51kWh LFP-chemistry battery that can go 212 miles on a single charge plus 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds.
An Extended Range trim uses the same motor setup but with a larger 69kWh NMC-chemistry battery. This car can go 298 miles on a single charge and 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds.
The final configuration is the Twin Motor Performance model. This uses the same battery setup as the Extended Range but adds a motor to the front axle to give increased performance at the expense of some range. The WLTP range falls to 286 miles whilst performance is boosted to 422bhp and 543Nm with a 3.6 second 0-62mph.
Volvo's latest styling language which was showcased on the new EX90 can be seen again here with the EX30. There’s no grille at the front, instead, diagonal indentations complete the Volvo badging. A black roof also adds to the sleek and streamlined appearance.
On the inside, a 12.3-inch touchscreen takes centre stage which runs Volvo’s Google-based infotainment system. A soundbar also runs across the dashboard to give passengers a cinematic audio experience.
The EX30 is available in 5 different exterior colour options, including Moss Yellow, Cloud Blue, Vapour Grey, Onyx Black and Crystal White. Customers can also choose between 4 interior styles that each mix different colours and textures.
