The brand-new Polestar 4 was unveiled at the recent Shanghai motor show and follows the Polestar 3 SUV as the brand’s latest bespoke offering.
This premium Polestar will rival brands such as BMW, Porsche and Genesis as it arrives with a £55,000 price tag depending on whether you choose a single or dual-motor powertrain option.
The desire to increase the range and lower the drag coefficient is what has inspired the 4’s design. So much so that designers have ditched the rear window in order to get a lower and more streamlined header rail.
This shouldn’t be a problem for drivers though as a pair of digital cameras feed images to the rearview mirror, which Polestar says will actually give drivers an improved view of what’s behind them.
Retractable door handles, frameless windows and ‘aero blades’ also make an appearance to give the, almost 5-metre-long, EV a sleek and streamlined silhouette.
These design measures have enabled the Polestar 4 to achieve a 0.269 drag coefficient. An impressive score for an SUV, especially when considering the slippery Tesla Model S only achieves a slightly better score of 0.208.
On the inside, fashionwear inspired the elegant designs. A button-free layout ensures there’s a minimal and clean cabin and the deceptively roomy rear seats have backlighting. The rear-view mirror screen can also be switched back to a conventional mirror so drivers can see their passengers.
Full technical details aren’t ready yet, however, its Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform allows for rear or all-wheel-drive, a 102kWh battery and up to 537bhp from dual motors.
This means that the 4 will be targeting a range of around 350 miles and a 0-62mph below 4 seconds.
The new Polestar 4 should go on sale early next year.
