The refreshed Polestar 2 (described as a 2024 model year) will keep its Standard and Long Range variants but this time they get bigger batteries. The standard 2 will gain a 69kWh pack (up from 64kWh) and the Long Range model will receive an 82kWh pack (up from 78kWh).
The new batteries feature improved cell chemistry and revised connection hardware that allow rapid charging. Polestar has confirmed that the refreshed Standard can charge up to speeds of 135kW whilst the Long Range models can achieve 205kW.
Polestar’s 2WD models are also switching from front to rear-wheel drive. This follows what Polestar's parent company, Volvo, did on its XC40 and C40 models.
Following these changes, the updated Polestar 2 has an improved range. The Standard trim now has a 322-mile WLTP figure (a 25-mile increase) and the single-motor Long Range trim now gets 395 miles on a single charge (a 52-mile increase). The dual-motor Long Range variant can travel 368 miles (a 65-mile increase).
Performance gets boosted too. The single-motor models are now powered by a more commanding 295bhp motor. Torque also increases from 330Nm to 490Nm, dropping the 0-62mph by 1.2 seconds (now 6.2 seconds).
The dual-motor versions also get a re-balanced drivetrain setup that increases the bhp to 416 (up from 402bhp) and the torque to 740Nm (up from 660Nm). Cars with the Performance Pack now get 469bhp and a 4.2 second 0-62mph.
There are some design differences with the new ‘2024’ model. At the front, a panel covers the fake grille. The SmartZone panel includes an array of sensors and a visible front-facing camera. The wheels on the Performance pack have also been refreshed to fit in with the new Polestar 3.
There are an array of new standard features too, such as a 360-degree surround view camera, a wireless phone charger, steering support, Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning and Blind Spot Information systems.
First deliveries of the new Polestar 2 are expected to arrive in Q3 of 2023, with pricing starting from around £44,490 for the cheapest Standard Range, rising to £57,950 for the Long Range with dual motor and Performance Pack.
