The South Korean manufacturer’s brand-new Ioniq 6 sits upon Hyundai’s E-GMP platform that’s also shared with the Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60.
All 2,500 of Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 First Edition models were snapped up by online buyers in less than 24 hours. Reservations for the £54,995 EV began on the 9th of November for British, German, Dutch, French and Norwegian buyers.
Hyundai has big plans for producing electric vehicles and is shaping the Ioniq 6 up to be a Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 rival.
The Ioniq 6 First Edition includes a 77.4kWh battery and an all-wheel drive powertrain which provides 320bhp and 605Nm of torque. Thanks to its sloping roofline, the Ioniq 6 has an impressive 0.21 drag coefficient which allows the slippery saloon to squeeze 320 miles out of a single charge.
Its innovative E-GMP platform makes the Hyundai Ioniq 6 compatible with 400V and 800V charging infrastructure. This means that on a DC fast charger, the Ioniq 6 can go from 10-80% in as little as 18 minutes.
Hyundai is also expected to release a less powerful, longer-range Ioniq 6 that’s said to be able to get around 380 miles of range out of the same 77.4kWh battery.
