Honda's push for electrification has gained momentum this week with the release of several new electrified models. The e:Ny1 joins the 6th generation CR-V, which has now gained plug-in tech, and the brand-new hybrid ZR-V. Both of which will arrive later this year.
Fortunately, this latest Honda’s design is a lot sleeker than its name which is phonetically pronounced e-en-why-one. The EV’s shape carries over many of Honda’s recognisable design cues and features a white Honda badge and flush grille
Built on a new all-electric platform that runs parallel to the HR-V, the e:Ny1 shares the same wheelbase of 2,610mm. Its 4,390mm length also means that the crossover is slightly longer than Peugeot's e-2008.
The e:Ny1 is a front-wheel-drive vehicle equipped with a single motor variant, delivering 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. Honda claims a usable battery capacity of 62kWh, enabling the e:Ny1 to travel over 249 miles on a single charge.
Charging speeds may not be groundbreaking compared to some of the latest models, with a maximum DC rate of 78kW. However, Honda states that this is sufficient to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent within 45 minutes or add 100km (62 miles) of range in just 11 minutes.
Inside the e:Ny1, Honda showcases an array of advanced technologies not commonly found in its combustion-powered offerings. The EV swaps the Honda e's full-width widescreen display with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a portrait-layout 15.1-inch touchscreen system.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto are supported, and users can conveniently interact with the vehicle through the My Honda+ app, allowing for tasks such as scheduling charging and activating climate control via their smartphones.
The e:Ny1 is expected to be available for purchase in late summer, with initial deliveries projected to take place towards the end of the year. Exact pricing and range options have yet to be announced, but it is anticipated that the e:Ny1 will come with a starting price of around £45,000.
