The new all-electric Lightning Cat saloon is expected to go on sale from the start of 2024 with exact specifications and pricing to be revealed in the coming months.
By the time this car hits UK roads, it might have a different name too. In China, the saloon is being called the Lightning Cat but this could be changed to a more conventional numerical naming system for Western markets.
The car is being pitched as a premium saloon and is predicted to come with pricing and specs that make it competitive with models like the Tesla Model 3 and the Hyundai IONIQ 6.
GWM’s new EVs implement a ‘retro-futuristic design’ with rounded headlights reminiscent of older MINI and Porsche models. At the back, the Lightning Cat also looks like a Bentley with squashed rear lights sitting atop the EV’s rear haunches.
A large glass panoramic roof comes as standard and gives the saloon a sleek and premium appearance.
On the inside, drivers will get to use a large central infotainment system whilst sitting in synthetic leather seating.
In China, it’s possible to drive a Lightning Cat with an 83.5kWh battery that provides over 400 miles in range. A dual motor system also offers 400bhp and a 0-62mph of 4.4 seconds. However, in the UK it could just be the cheaper and less powerful single-motor models that arrive initially.
GWM Ora is also expected to be adding new higher-spec variations of the Funky Cat model later this year.
