MINI Cooper EV
The new electric Cooper will be available in two trim levels, E and SE. These derivatives have an official range of 190 and 250 miles, respectively, which is a substantial improvement over MINI’s previous electric hatch.
The Cooper E is equipped with a 40.7kWh battery that powers a robust 182bhp electric motor to deliver a 0-62mph acceleration time of 7.3 seconds. Meanwhile, the Cooper SE steps up the game with a 54.2kWh battery and a 215bhp power output, capable of doing 0-62mph in just 6.7 seconds.
Both models support 11kW AC charging, with the Cooper E limited to a 75kW DC input and the SE capable of handling 95kW. This means drivers can achieve a 10-80% charge in under half an hour.
The interior technology is one of the stand-out features of the new Cooper. MINI says that this is the first car to feature an OLED display. The screen, which has a 240mm diameter, provides a modern twist to the brand's iconic central circular dial.
As well as this, the Cooper adopts the new 'Operating System 9,' which brings high-speed connectivity and optional 5G capability.
A Remote 360 option allows users to monitor both the interior and exterior of the EV when parked via the MINI App. Additionally, MINI has introduced the controversial 'Connected' upgrades, that enable customers to purchase extra vehicle functions such as games, music and video streaming.
An innovative AirConsole app can also transform smartphones into gaming controllers for an in-car gaming experience on the OLED display.
Pricing for the Cooper E starts at £30,000, while the larger-battery SE comes in at £34,500. Both models are expected to arrive in the spring of 2024.
MINI Countryman
MINI has set its sights on the electric SUV market with the new electrified Countryman. For the first time, the Countryman is available with both combustion and all-electric powertrains.
The five-door crossover SUV has grown in size, gaining 60mm in height and 130mm in length. This expansion translates to more interior space and a 460-litre boot.
Just like its smaller sibling, the Countryman is available in two variants, mirroring the Cooper's E and SE trim levels. The Countryman E is equipped with a substantial 64.7kWh battery, delivering an impressive electric range of up to 287 miles. Its 201bhp motor propels it from 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds.
For those seeking more power and all-wheel drive capability, the Countryman SE ALL4 utilizes the same battery but boasts two electric motors, generating a total power output of 308bhp. This configuration allows for a swift 0-62mph time of 5.6 seconds and a reduced electric range of 269 miles.
Charging options are abundant, with both models supporting 22kW AC charging as an option and 130kW DC charging as standard.
MINI offers three distinct trim levels for the Countryman: Classic, Exclusive, and Sport, all featuring the same circular OLED screen as the hatchback. This alters the upholstery and trim, not the powertrain or specs.
The Countryman E is priced at £41,500, while the larger-battery SE ALL4 comes in at £46,600. Both models are expected to arrive in February 2024.
