New electric MINI Convertible confirmed for limited production

A year on since showcasing their drop-top EV concept, MINI is going to build 999 electric Convertibles with 150 earmarked for the UK.

New electric MINI Convertible confirmed for limited production

The positive response to their prototype model was enough to persuade the brand to commission a limited run of vehicles priced at £52,500.

Labelled as the MINI Cooper SE Convertible, the limited edition model will come in either black or silver paint, both with bronze detailing. 17-inch alloy wheels made completely from secondary aluminium complete the exterior look.

The same battery and motors that are used on the hatchback MINI Electric transfer over onto this model. This means a 184-bhp front motor allows the Convertible to go from 0-62mph in 8.2 seconds (nearly a second slower than the hatchback), with a claimed 125-mile range.

Another aspect of the car that’s familiar is the dimensions that remain unchanged from the petrol-powered MINI Convertible.

Aside from its electric power, the only major difference separating this model from the petrol Convertible is the price. Sales begin in April at just over £52,500 meaning the Cooper SE Convertible costs £23,000 more than the MINI Electric hatchback.
