New Dacia Spring

Europe’s most affordable electric car has been confirmed for a UK launch in 2024.

New Dacia Spring

The Spring initially arrived in Europe around two years ago and will now be offered in the UK with several technological and design upgrades.

It’ll be the UK’s most affordable all-electric car (the Citroen Ami is technically a quadricycle) when it goes on sale, with pricing expected to be well below the £20,000 mark.

This price does result in some very modest specifications, however. The current Spring model’s power output is just 44bhp and it holds a 27.4kWh battery for a 143-mile WLTP range.

The Spring is a city car with subtle SUV styling cues to give it a more rugged appearance. Roof rails, body cladding and a high ground clearance all add to the off-road look.

But don’t be deceived, the Dacia Spring is a very compact car with proportions (3,734mm long and 1,622 mm wide) just slightly longer and wider than the Volkswagen up!. Despite this, Dacia has still managed to squeeze a 300-litre boot into the rear.

A charge port is hidden behind the grille at the front of the car. DC charging is offered as an option and a 30kW charger should be able to give an 80% charge in just under an hour.

Dacia Brand Director for the UK, Luke Broad, commented: “We are thrilled that Dacia Spring will come to the UK in 2024. It will certainly be worth the wait! It will literally plug a gap in the UK electric car market for a highly usable, quality EV that won’t break the bank and which makes electric vehicle ownership more realistic than ever.”

More details regarding the car’s mid-life refresh will be revealed by Dacia closer to the UK launch date.
