Kia Unveils Three New Electric Vehicles

Kia has introduced three new electric cars, including the production-ready EV5 and concept EV3 and EV4 models.

Kia Unveils Three New Electric Vehicles

The EV5 utilises Kia's specialized E-GMP EV platform, which is shared with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6. It's set to hit the market in 2025.

Described as a 'compact CUV,' the concept EV3 resembles a scaled-down version of the EV9 with a more sloping roofline. Despite being a concept, the EV3 is progressing toward production and could arrive sooner than the EV5, in 2024.

In contrast, the concept EV4 is a sleeker saloon model with an aerodynamic exterior aimed at competing with established EVs like the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. Kia hasn't yet confirmed whether the EV4 will be available in the UK.

During the presentation, Kia also mentioned an upcoming hatchback-sized EV2 predicted to arrive by 2027.

Kia's innovations extend beyond new car models, as the company plans to enhance the customer experience. This includes the development of a more user-friendly smartphone app that integrates various functions and leverages in-vehicle artificial intelligence (AI) services.

Charles Ryu, Head of Brand and Customer Experience Division, stated, “Kia aims to provide sustainable mobility solutions and fulfil the needs of our customers by eliminating perceived difficulties. We want to make the entire customer journey, from digital to offline to in-vehicle interactions, as effortless and enjoyable as possible. This includes the stages of pre-purchase, purchase and post-purchase.”

Kia's overarching objective is to achieve an annual sales target of one million electric vehicles by 2026, with aspirations to increase this figure to 1.6 million units per year by 2030.
