The new Volkswagen ID.5 becomes the third bespoke EV in VW’s growing ID line-up.

The new coupe-SUV will be available to order early next year and will enter markets with a £47,000 price tag.

The ID.5 shares many of the same looks as the ID.4 due to them both having the same MEB platform. Even though its length, width and wheelbase are the same, the ID.5 showcases a stylish sloping roof at the rear that will be popular in the growing coupe-SUV market.

This slightly sportier change in styling will also increase the aerodynamics and therefore the range of the vehicle too. The standard 77kWh battery will offer an impressive range of 323 miles.

The ID.5 will be available in three derivatives upon its release – the Pro, Pro Performance and GTX.

The entry-level Pro will have a 172bhp electric motor on the rear axle that allows for a 0-62mph of 10.4 seconds and a top speed of 99mph.

The Pro Performance trim has a stronger 201bhp electric motor which improves the 0-62mph to 8.4 seconds, whilst the GTX gains an extra motor at the front axle to give a combined 295bhp output.

The GTX can go from 0-62mph in just 6.3 seconds as a result but this will see a reduction in its WLTP range to 304 miles.

Styling for the GTX differs when compared to the other trims. A lower suspension, changed front bumper, lower grille and painted side skirts are just some of the changes that makes this derivative stand out.

The interior has a lot of the same tech as the ID.4. A six-inch digital cluster and 12-inch infotainment screen being amongst the highlights. The ID.5’s cabin will also be made with vegan materials.
